One man. One mission. No stump left standing.
I'm Andrew. I grind out tree stumps and roots for a living, and I genuinely enjoy it. NPTC qualified, insured to £5m, and I always leave the garden tidy.

Four jobs, done properly
A cost effective, safe and professional service across Herts, Beds, Bucks and North London, including Ampthill, Flitwick, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Luton.
Stump grinding
The main event. I grind stumps 6 to 12 inches below the surface, without disturbing patios, fences or the plants you actually like.
How it works
Root removal
Roots lifting your lawn or creeping under the fence get the same treatment as the stump they came from.
More on roots
Waste removal
Grindings barrowed out and taken away on the trailer. I'm a registered waste carrier and almost all of it gets recycled.
Where it goes
Planting
Out with the old stump, in with a new tree or shrub. I can replant where the stump used to be and leave the spot better than I found it.
ReplantingSimple, from first call to swept path
I have a look
Send a photo or I'll visit. I check the stump's size, what's around it and how to get a machine to it, then give you a free estimate.
I grind it out
The right machine for the job grinds the stump into chips, usually 6 to 12 inches below the surface. The stump loses. Every time.
I leave it tidy
Chips can fill the hole as mulch or go away on the trailer. If you fancy it, I'll plant something new in its place.
Four grinders. One of them is called The Terminator.
Every stump is different, so I bring the machine that fits. From one I can carry like a briefcase to a 40hp beast on tracks.
The Terminator
Small stumps | Impossible access
My smallest machine. It can be carried like a briefcase, so it can literally get anywhere. Powered by a Stihl MS661 chainsaw and best suited to smaller tree and shrub stumps.
- Stihl MS661 powered
- Carried by hand
- Fits any gate
Carlton 900H
Larger stumps | Tight access
My small grinder, used when the stumps are a little larger or access is tight. More ergonomic than The Terminator, so if there are bigger stumps, or more of them, this is the one I'd choose.
- Compact
- Tight spaces
- Quick work
GreenMech
Medium to large stumps
My old faithful. A punchy 25hp Kohler V-twin engine and a 16 inch cutting wheel. A little rough round the edges, but don't let its appearance fool you: it gets into awkward spots and makes short work of medium to large stumps.
- 25hp Kohler V-twin
- 16" cutting wheel
- Good access
Bandit SG40
The big stuff
My large grinder. 40hp driving an uprated heavy wheel with 22 cutting teeth, riding on tracks to keep ground pressure low. Very agile for its size, so it still gets into more places than you'd think.
- 40hp
- 22 cutting teeth
- On tracks
Wind, rain, shine or snow, I'll be there
I started out in commercial grounds maintenance and worked my way up from the bottom, then went self-employed and ran my own landscaping company, Garden Knights Ltd, for nine years: decking, fencing, turfing, the lot.
Along the way I took my arboriculture tickets and found the job I enjoy most: stump grinding. I've been grinding since 2017, and I now have the kit to deal with the smallest shrub stump right up to the mightiest trunk. Safety comes first on every job: the area is made safe before I start and checked again before I leave.
Luckily, I love being outside. Whatever the great British weather throws at me, I'll be there with a grin(der).
- NPTC CS30, CS31, CS38 and CS39 certificates
- Land based certificates for safe operation of a wood chipper and a stump grinder
- Public liability insurance to £5m with Direct Line
- Registered waste carrier, and almost all waste is recycled
