Stump grinding & stump removal
A cost effective, safe and professional service across Herts, Beds, Bucks and North London, including Ampthill, Flitwick, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Luton.
Why remove a stump at all?
Safety, mostly. Stumps left in gardens are a tripping hazard, especially where children or pets play. They also attract unwanted pests like termites, ants and beetles that can spread to other plants or structures. Removing the stump gets rid of the risk, and of the eyesore.
Grinding is the practical, efficient and environmentally friendly way to do it: no digger, no crater, no chemicals. You get your garden back and can actually use the space.
First, a proper look
Every job starts with a consultation. I evaluate the stump and its surroundings: its size, where it sits, how close it is to structures or utilities, and what the soil is like. Then I plan the job around what I find, and give you a free estimate.
Then, the grinding
A stump grinder uses a rotating cutting wheel to shred the stump into small wood chips, working 6 to 12 inches below the surface. That removes the stump properly while keeping disturbance to a minimum, which matters for nearby plants and roots, and for patios, fences and driveways.
I'm a trained operator with industry standard machinery. I know how to work around hazards like underground utilities, and I follow safety protocols that protect both me and your property. Four different machines mean there's always one that can reach your stump. Yes, even that one.
Afterwards
The ground chips can be used as mulch to fill the hole, which tidies the spot and enriches the soil as it breaks down. Or I can take the lot away. If you'd like something growing there again, see planting below.
Root removal & root grinding
Roots don't always get the message when the tree comes down. Ones that lift lawns, creep under fences or head for the patio get ground out the same way as the stump: a cost effective, safe and professional job, with the same care around whatever is growing or built nearby.
Waste removal
Grinding a stump makes a surprising amount of chips. With the right tools, a wheelbarrow for the awkward corners and a trailer for the bulk, removing the spoil is made easy.
If you have stump grindings that need to go, I'll clear your garden of the leftover debris and leave it clean and tidy. I'm a registered waste carrier and almost all of the waste is recycled. Contact me today for a free estimate.
Planting
Once the old stump is out, the space is yours again. I offer a planting and replanting service, so a new tree or shrub can go in where the stump used to be. Out with the old, in with the new.
